Iran has declared its readiness to burn any ship in the Strait of Hormuz

Ibrahim Jabari, an adviser to the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, threatened to burn any vessel attempting to transit the Strait of Hormuz.

"We will burn any vessel that attempts to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. We will not allow a single drop of oil to leave this region," Jabari said.

Shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has sharply declined following the US and Israeli strikes on Iran, and insurers have begun raising war premiums and reviewing insurance coverage amid growing security threats, the Maritime News portal reported on Monday.

There is no formal blockade, but the market has faced a virtual paralysis of shipping due to security threats.

Almost 20-30 percent of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas transits the strait. China is among the main recipients.
